moby - New York, New York! I JUST LOVE IT!

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

New York, New York
Does it burn bright
All the starlight
Do you know my name
Do you even care
Do you love when I take you up there

New York, New York
Does it taste nice
Does it feel right

New York, New York
Does it taste like
What it burns like
Do you know my name
Do you even care
Do you love when I take you up there

Baby won't you take me there
Make it like you really care
I am feeling good up there
Just keep the diamonds in my hair
Make me feel good right now
Like everything does in this town
Lines of snow and popping corks
Money, drugs in old New York

Baby won't you really hurt
Make it like it really burns
I am feeling good right there
Just keep the diamonds in my hair
Make me feel good right now
Like everything does in this town
Lines of snow and popping corks
Money, drugs in old New York

New York, New York
Does it taste right
Does it feel right

New York, New York
Does it burn bright
All the starlight
Do you know my name
Do you even care
Do you love when I take you up there

Baby won't you take me there
Make it like you really care
I am feeling good up there
Just keep the diamonds in my hair
Make me feel good right now
Like everything does in this town
Lines of snow and popping corks
Money, drugs in old New York

Like everything that ever burned
I am feeling good up there
Just keep the diamonds in my hair

The Sentence and its elements: The Sentence Skeleton - Part 1

Sunday, October 5, 2008

Hey buddy, How's it going?

As I said a few weeks ago I've been rather busy lately but I'm still alive :)

Tonight I'm going to cover a few sentence elements. When we think about a sentence,  sometimes we just don't recognize its elements (at least most of them), I'm sure we can recognize the subject or the verb.

Every grammarian, it seems, has his own definition. Students frequently are told that a Sentence has an expressed and understood subject and predicate, and this definition fits so well.

Subject + Predicate

  1. Birds sing. (Birds = Subject; Sing = Predicate);
  2. John smiled (John = Subject; Smiled = Predicate);
  3. Barbara cried (Barbara = Subject; Cried = Predicate).
We have seen that a sentence is composed of two essential parts, a subject and a predicate.
In speech we are accustomed to using phrases, clauses even single words since they make complete sense in the context.

Future: Be Going to - How to use it?

Saturday, June 28, 2008

Uma das maneiras de transmitimir uma idéia de futuro no Inglês é com o uso do Be Going to.

Qual a diferença entre Future com Will e com Be Going to?
É simples, usa-se Be Going to para ações antecipadamente planejadas e que transmitem certeza.

Example:

  • I am going to travel to Germany. (I've already bought the tikets).
  • Jane is going to go out with Kevin. (She told me she has an appointment with Kevin tonight.)

Já com Will são ações que decidimos momentaneamente ou previsões que não se baseam em algo.

Example:

  • (The telephone is ringing) - I will answer the phone.
  • In the future there will be no illness. (It is just an opinion, It's not based on research or other information.)

Entretanto, em um contexto geral da fala pouco se distinguem.
Agora que sabemos a diferença entre as duas formas vamos para a parte estrutural.

Subject / Sujeito + to be (am, are, is) going to + main verb.

Kathy (Subject) is (to be) going to bake (main verb) cookies.
